Reading Slumps... and how to break out of them! I'd like to start out this blog entry by apologizing. I'm sorry that it's been so long since I've updated! I've been extremely busy; the past three weekends in a row I've been at horse shows and two out of three of those weekends I haven been showing myself. I have also recently been riding a new green off the track Thoroughbred mare on top of lessons on my own horse, therefore I've been extremely tired when I get home and just don't feel like doing anything. To top it all off it is the end of the school year so I've been busy with that too! Luckily, schools out for the summer and I'm officially a senior! It's super crazy to think about.. I do have a little bit of a low in horse shows so I won't be as busy getting ready for them. After reading The Problem with Forever, my brain was consumed with feels. I was left in a book hangover and I tried to pull myself out of the reading slump I felt myself falling into by immediately immersing into other books. Typically when I feel myself slipping into a reading slump that tactic works for me. Unfortunately, this time around it didn't. I read quite a few books after TPWF but my brain still had itself wrapped around all it's glory, not to mention the state that A Court of Mist and Fury left me in.. Then I got swamped with riding and all the horse shows which really didn't help my cause. Now I just can't seem to get into anything! It's quite frustrating! I've even done the infamous act of continuously picking up books only to put them down, start something else, and repeat the process over again. Reading slumps... They happen to the best of us.. They begin due to numerous of reasons and no matter what your reason is here are some tips on how to attempt to eliminate our biggest nemesis! Switch Genres Maybe you've been reading a lot of si-fi lately and your brain is starting to get a bit over it? Try switching to something else like dystopian! Or maybe you've been reading a lot of contemporary and you need something a little more fast paced tp pick you up, try indulging into a high fantasy read! I know that big genre swaps can be hard but it might just be what you need to pull you out of your reading slump! Stop it before it happens Now, I know this sounds odd but try stopping your reading slump before it fully consumes you! I know that I can usually feel myself slowly slipping into a slump. Whether it be because I have been super busy and just haven't had the time to read or because I'm stuck in a book hangover, I immediately pick up another book and start reading! It helps your mind not completely get stuck in what you were doing last. I also usually feel compelled to finish a book once I've started it so it encourages me to focus my attention on my new book and finish it. Then I can dwell after the fact. Reading a book literally as soon as you put down that one that can throw you into a book hangover really acts as a buffer to help prevent it! Because we all know that sometimes those book hangovers throws you into a slump and nobody wants that. Reread Try visiting some old favorites! Whether you just recently read it or haven't picked it up in a year or two, rereading a book that you know you love just might be the solution! You don't have to worry about about not liking it because you know you already do. I know from personal experience that just thinking about some of my favorite books fills my heart and makes me want to reread them. Trust what you know Trust what you know, maybe there is an author you adore but haven't read all of their books yet? Knowing that you already enjoy books by an author may mean that you'll also enjoy their other books. Doing some may just rekindle your need to read! Reperk your interest Try to reperk your interest in wanting to read! Visit and read through some of your favorite blogs, go watch some of your favorite booktubers, attend a bookish event, or maybe try to meet up to hang out with some of your favorite bookish friends! Doing so might perk your interest and have you itching to pick up a book again. I hope you find these tips helpful and if you're in a reading slump right now like I am, I wish you the best in trying to dig yourself out of it! Despite the fact that I've been MIA due to horse relating things and it's partially the cause of my reading slump, And despite the sadness that I haven't had time to update my precious blog, all my hard work on focusing on my riding paid off because I won my Medal class which qualified me to compete in Medal Finals at the Championship show in October! Here is a picture of me and my horse in our winning round!

Short BiographyMy name is Devynn, I'm a 18 year old girl who resides in sunny Southern California. Most of my time is spent with my nose stuck in a book or on the back of a horse. I love the outdoors and hiking, specifically in the spring when everything is blooming and beautiful! Archives
