No Pizza Delivery?Title: No Pizza Delivery? Author: Grace Marshall Publication Date: May 31st, 2016 Publisher: Firelight Reads Category: Young Adult Genre: Horses Star Rating: 3.5 out of 5 Synopsis: Manure, southern accents, self-absorbed boys, and new faces are all a part of the maze that have become Ruth Deloach’s life. Her world is sent spinning when she finds out she is going to be ripped from America’s Dairyland to live in the embarrassingly small tourist town of Sainte Genevieve, Missouri. The blow is slightly lessened by the news that her father wants to start a horse ranch, but how enjoyable will it really be to live where there is no pizza delivery and a revolving door to the public? A public with a different idea of how things are done and said. To add embarrassment to her frustration she finds she knows less about horses than she presumed. Maybe the handsome ranch hand her father hires can brighten things up, then again, maybe not. Thoughts:
Author sent me this book in exchange for an honest review. Isn't the horse on the cover of this book just so adorable? It's little snip is so cute! I'm a sucker for horses with cute snips. No Pizza Delivery? is the first book in the Horse Haven series. We follow along fourteen year old Ruth as her life is turned upside down. She goes from living and average life in Wisconsin to being forced to move to a small town in Missouri on a ranch. No Pizza Delivery? is a sweet and silly story about Ruth adjusting to her new life. Upon moving to her new home, Ruth discovers that there is no convenience about where she lives. To do anything they have to drive an hour to town and that means there is no pizza delivery. Ruth finds this very unsatisfactory but she learns to adapt and like her new country life. Now that she has moved she lives near her Grandpa and spends quite some time over at his ranch where she learns about and how to ride horses. Except she becomes a bit sad because they move to a big, beautiful ranch house with room for horses and animals but there is none. To her fortune her Grandpa surprises her with a little gift that greatly enlightens her. Ruth is a really sweet and down to earth girl who despite herself she cares about other too. When her father presented to her that he wanted to move she was sad to leave her life behind but she knew that leaving would make her father happy. Ruth put aside her needs for her father and I really enjoyed that. Peter, Ruth's father, decides to hire a barn hand to help out around the farm and teach Ruth some things or two. She enjoys having him around because she finds him attractive although she soon realizes that it isn't just about looks. The nice thing about this story is that it wasn't cliche although I did find it to be a bit slow and felt that the plot lacked a bit of pizzazz. Don't get me wrong, It was cute! It only took me about two and a half hours to get through, it's very easy going and smooth. You can definitely tell the character is a younger teen and I think this story would do well for children and teens alike!
