Double-crossed and left crippled by the kidnapping of a valuable team member, the crew is low on resources, allies, and hope. As powerful forces from around the world descend on Ketterdam to root out the secrets of the dangerous drug known as jurda parem, old rivals and new enemies emerge to challenge Kaz's cunning and test the team's fragile loyalties. A war will be waged on the city's dark and twisting streets―a battle for revenge and redemption that will decide the fate of magic in the Grisha world. ---I do not reccomend reading this review if you have not yet read the first book, Six of Crows. This review will not contain spoilers for Crooked Kingdom but it will for Six of Crows.--- Thoughts:
Although I'm very say to say goodbye to the Grisha world (hopefully just for now), Crooked Kingdom was a fantastic end to this epic duology. It filled my heart and brought tears to my eyes but I wouldn't have it any other way. Wow.. Crooked Kingdom was just Wow.. I'm not entirely sure how to form my feelings about this into words or where to begin doing so? I mean that ending.. To express my utmost feelings about that wouldn't exactly be spoiler-free so bare with me as I attempt to unleash spoiler-free feels. This book blew Six of Crows out of the water, the twist and turns these pages dragged us through were simply amazing. I mean there were more twist and turns in Crooked Kingdom then ways to make money in Ketterdam. All I can do is recommend you hang tight because this book was one heck of a roller coaster ride. It was so great to have Kaz and his crew back. Everyone developed so much over the course of Crooked Kingdom and each of our favorite OTPs flourished in their own ways. The relationships between everyone become so much deeper and more on a personal level, even if they didn't want to admit it everyone became friends and not just a crew doing a job. There were so many times I wanted to punch certain characters then realized I actually didn't want to anymore. I know that doesn't really make sense but once you read the book you'll understand. I love Inej and I can't say that enough. The friendships between Inej and Nina as well as Inej and Jesper were my absolute favorite, Inej is just so strong considering all she's been through and even though her past threatens her constantly she pushes past it. She has so much determination to make herself into something when she believes she is nothing. "What about the nobodies and the nothings, the invisible girls? We learn to hold our heads as if we wear crowns. We learn to wring magic from the ordinary. That was how you survived when you weren’t chosen, when there was no royal blood in your veins. When the world owed you nothing, you demanded something of it anyway." Lets talk about the budding relationship of Kaz and Inej. I do have to say that I wish it took a bit different route with a little less armor but I honestly wouldn't have it any other way. Their relationship was just so them. The steps they took towards each other were huge, even though they were small and it filled my heart with endless feels. “I would have come for you. And if I couldn't walk, I'd crawl to you, and no matter how broken we were, we'd fight our way out together-knives drawn, pistols blazing. Because that's what we do. We never stop fighting.” I strangely didn't find myself has engrossed with the relationship between Nina and Matthias, I think because my heart shipped Jesper and Wylan so much more. They are just so different from each other but at the same time they make sense and I think it's the cutest thing ever. Although don't get me wrong, I still totally ship Nina and Matthias and the feels were still very much there. Nina just transforms in this book and in more way then one but I'm not going to say any more then that because I don't trust myself. The plot was so full in Crooked Kingdom and in no way was I ever bored, it was impossible. It was so rich and fast-paced and so in depth. I just love books like that. I was so happy that we got to see other characters from the Grisha trilogy! The world building was amazing from the looks to the feel of things to the smells, Bardugo made sure you weren't left wondering. I'm so sad that this brilliant story has come to an end.. Here are some last words I have for our beloved characters... Kaz- even though you're a wreck and sometimes you need to be slapped, I love you. Inej- oh dear Inej.. You're not nothing, you're perfect and don't let anyone make you feel like anything less then what you are. Wylan- I just want to squish you because you're my favorite, but please don't pour chemicals on me for squishing you. Jesper- dang dude.. be good to sir Wylan, despite what you think he deserve someone like you. Nina- girl, keep on keeping on with you're kick-ass self and be strong. Matthias- I didn't used to like you all that much but you've grown on me..
